The Master of Arts in Teaching degree is designed for individuals who possess a baccalaureate degree from a four-year institution of higher education and who desire to attain an initial teaching license in a specific content area. The College of Education will recommend individuals who complete the degree program and licensure requirements successfully to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for a teaching certification.
Admissions Requirements
- B.A. or B.S degree from a regionally accredited college or university
- 24 hours of content-related coursework at grades of C or higher
- Cumulative GPA of 2.80 or higher from the undergraduate degree-granting institution
- Criminal background check from country of residency
- Completed Graduate College application, including official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities attended, letters of reference submitted online, and application fee

Exit Requirement
Submit completed edTPA portfolio though Taskstream
During First Semester:
- Purchase a Taskstream account (www.taskstream.com) and begin the Teacher Education application process
- Request a Graduate Plan of Study from your advisor and submit original form to the Graduate College
After Completion of First Semester:
- Maintain minimum GPA of 3.00 to remain in “Good” academic standing
- Be familiar with the policies and procedures articulated in the current Graduate College Catalog (available online)
- Be aware of deadlines and requirements outlined in each semester’s academic calendar (i.e.;, withdrawals)
- Follow your prescribed Plan of Study and seek advising assistance prior to registration each semester
- Read (and respond as requested to) all communication sent to your university email account
- Maintain continuous enrollment (excluding summer sessions) or be subject to new curricula requirements
To Be Cleared for Graduation, You Must:
- Apply for graduation with the Graduate College before Week 4 of your last semester
- Submit completed edTPA portfolio through Taskstream
