DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH
COLLEGE OF ARTS, HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES (REVISED SEPTEMBER 2024)
The minor in English is designed to provide undergraduate students in other majors with the
fundamentals of English necessary for advanced study in the discipline and/or employment in drama, law, mass media, politics, education, and related occupations. The minor in English offers a structured program that allows students to acquire some level of how to think critically as well as how to
understand and communicate in a diverse world. The program requires 18 credit hours to be completed and passed with a grade of “C” or higher. The student must complete at least 24 hours of academic
credits in their own major before declaring a minor and must have a minimum GPA of 2.00. A student may not have more than the two minors regardless of the student’s major. The minor will be printed on the students’ transcript but not on the Diploma. A minor in this content area requires a minimum of
twelve (12) credit hours not included in the baccalaureate degree plan of study at the 200-level or above. Students must complete all required courses, and no substitution of courses will be allowed.
This minor in English aligns with specific program courses across multiple majors on campus. All undergraduate majors can benefit from the breadth of this field.
