African American/ African History Minor

The minor in History (African American and African History) is designed to provide undergraduate students in other majors with the fundamentals of past or the governmental systems and political activity today necessary for advanced study in the discipline and/or employment in museums, law, mass media, politics, education, and related occupations. The minor in History (African American and African History) offers a structured program that allows students to acquire some level of skills in written and oral communication, ethical reasoning, critical thinking, intercultural and global awareness, and scholarly research with an emphasis on the history of African American and African. The program requires 15 credit hours to be completed and passed with a grade of “C” or higher. The student must complete at least 24 hours of academic credits in their own major before declaring a minor and must have a minimum GPA of 2.00. A student may not have more than the two minors regardless of the student’s major. The minor will be printed on the students’ transcript but not on the Diploma. A minor in this content area requires a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours not included in the baccalaureate degree plan of study at the 200-level or above. Students must complete all required courses, and no substitution of courses will be allowed. This minor in History (African American and African History) aligns with specific program courses across multiple majors on campus. All undergraduate majors can benefit from the breadth of this field.
