The Political Science minor is designed to give undergraduate students from different majors a well-rounded understanding of both historical and modern government systems and political activities. This program is ideal for students who want to build a strong foundation for advanced studies or pursue careers in fields like politics, policy, law, international relations, and education. With a structured curriculum, students will develop critical skills in written and oral communication, ethical reasoning, critical thinking, and intercultural and global awareness, as well as scholarly research with a focus on government, politics, and policy that will advance the Human Condition.
To complete the minor, students must earn 15 credit hours with a grade of “C” or higher in each course. To be eligible, students need to have completed at least 24 credit hours in their major and have a GPA of at least 2.00. Students are allowed to declare up to two minors, and while the minor will be printed on their transcript, it will not appear on the diploma. A minimum of 12 credit hours must be at the 200-level or above and cannot overlap with the student’s primary degree plan. All courses required for the minor must be completed as outlined, with no substitutions allowed.
Students in the minor will take a mix of courses, including POLI 270: International Relations, POLI 311: Blacks & The American Political System, POLI 313: Women & Politics, POLI 365: Policy Analysis, and POLI 432: The Congress, each designed to provide diverse perspectives and deepen understanding of political science. This minor is meant to complement various majors and add valuable insights that can enhance students’ academic experiences and future career opportunities.
