The Department of Mathematics and Statistics faculty approved a proposed curriculum revision package for the Statistics and Data Science concentration under its BS in Mathematics program in its November faculty meeting. The curriculum revision includes:
• Changing the concentration name from Statistics and Data Science to Data Science;
• Creating a new course DASC 405-Data Privacy and Ethics to replace Ethics Reasoning Elective;
• Revising four existing courses, MATH 365 to DASC 340, STAT 240 to DASC 240, STAT 328 to DASC 328, and STAT 428 to DASC 428;
• Removing MATH 211, 231, 320, 341 and 377, and STAT 337 from the renamed Data Science concentration curriculum;
• Adding COMP 361, CST 225 and 325, MATH 223 and 485 and a 3-credit hour math elective to the renamed Data Science concentration curriculum; and
• Replacing PHYS 242/252 with a 4-credit hour Science Elective.
I am submitting the Statistics and Data Science concentration curriculum revision package to you for your committee review and approval, and would like to request that the COST curriculum committee approve the proposal before the COST March 2024 faculty meeting so that the proposed Statistics and Data Science concentration curriculum revision can be submitted for COST faculty approval in its March 2024
meeting.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
