Child Development and Family Studies, Minor

Students who complete a Minor in Child Development and Family Studies (CDFS) develop knowledge and understanding of children, families, and communities. Acquiring such knowledge is essential to the professional and personal development of all individuals contributing to society. The CDFS minor is particularly appropriate for students planning to enter the fields of education, social work, nursing, psychology, and other human services professions.

 

The courses are:

  1. FCS - 260 - Introduction to Human Development (3)

  2. FCS - 321 - Child Development: Prenatal Through Early/Middle Childhood (3)

  3. FCS - 322 - Adolescence and Young Adulthood (3)

  4. FCS - 331 - Family Systems (3)

  5. FCS - 422 - Parent Child Relations (3)

  6. FCS - 432 - Cultural Responsive Perspectives for Children and Families (3)

Requirements for Minor:
a.Students must obtain a “C” or higher in courses used toward the minor.
b.At least one-half (9 credit hours) of the minor credits must be taken at North Carolina A & T State University.
c.Students must complete at least 24 hours of academic credits before declaring a minor and must have a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5. Students working on a bachelor’sdegree have the option to enroll in a program leading to a minor (or minors) provided:(1) the minor field is different from the major field; (2) the student meets the requirements for acceptance into the minor program; and (3) the appropriate application for admission or the “Change of Major/Minor” form is approved and filed at the Office of the Registrar.

d.Students must complete FCS 260 as a prerequisite for FCS 322, FCS 331, and FCS 422.
e.Students must complete FCS 321 as a prerequisite for FCS 422.

f. A minor in this content area requires a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours not included in the baccalaureate degree plan of study at the 200-level or above.
