Minor in Chemistry

The minor in Chemistry requires students to complete a minimum of 16 hours of chemistry coursework with a grade of C or better in both lecture and laboratory courses.

1. Required courses are selected as follows:

CHEM 221 (3 credits), CHEM 222 (3 credits),

2. Select two courses among the following three

CHEM 231 (3 credits)

CHEM 451 (3 credits)

CHEM 441(3 credits)

3. Three laboratory courses among the following

CHEM 223 (1 credit), CHEM 224 (1 credit)

CHEM 232 (2 credits) OR CHEM 452 (2 credits)

2. Students must choose the elective chemistry courses with the approval of the department chair or an assigned designee.

3. Chemistry courses taken outside the above-listed courses will not be counted as part of the minor requirement

4. “A minor in this content area requires a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours not included in the baccalaureate degree plan of study at the 200-level or above.”

CHEM 107/CHEM 117 should be taken as a prerequisite before the acceptance of the minor declaration and will not be counted as part of the minimum 16 credit hour limitation.

Laboratory Courses

Students pursuing a minor in Chemistry must complete three of the following laboratory courses

CHEM 223 - Organic Chemistry I Laboratory 1 Credit(s)
CHEM 224 - Organic Chemistry II Laboratory 1 Credit(s)
CHEM 232 - Quantitative Analysis I Laboratory 2 Credit(s)
or
CHEM 452 - Biochemistry I Laboratory 2 Credit(s)
