EDPR 258 - Socio-political Foundations of STEM Education When Offered: F, S
3 Credit(s) 3 Lecture Hour(s) This course explores the STEM education literature and examines the manner in which it has been taken up in K-12 schools,afterschool programs, and informal learning spaces. The goal of this course is to immerse students in the seminal science andtechnology studies works that have shaped the field of STEM education since it was coined in 2000s but also draw connections tokey policies such as the National Defense Education Act of 1958 and the 1983 call to action, “A Nation at Risk.” Students will notonly see how socio-political factors changed what we expect students know about STEM but also how STEM has changed theway we do education.
